The Littlest Pet Shop team believes that creativity is one of the most important skills a child can develop—and at the heart of creativity is storytelling. Our recent survey, conducted in partnership with Talker Research, highlighted how crucial storytelling is in early childhood development. Parents of Gen Alpha children have shared their insights, and we’re excited to pass these along to inspire the LPS community.

The Power of Storytelling in Childhood Development

The survey of 2,000 parents revealed that children are most creative at around seven years old, but there’s a concern that this creativity may fade as they grow older. That’s why it’s more important than ever to nurture this creativity through imaginative play.

Parents are turning to storytelling to help their children cultivate this skill—whether it’s reading books together, creating new stories, or acting out adventures during playtime. In fact, 81% of parents believe storytelling should be part of their child’s daily routine, and toys like Littlest Pet Shop are key to sparking this creativity.

Why Littlest Pet Shop?

Our LPS community is known for creating amazing storytelling content with their pets. Whether it’s crafting new adventures or building worlds around their favorite characters, the creativity shown by our fans is nothing short of inspiring. Parents see the value in this type of play too, with nearly all surveyed (91%) saying that toys are critical for developing imagination.

Looking to the Future with Creativity and AI

Interestingly, the research also found that parents are contemplating how new technologies, like artificial intelligence (AI), might influence their children’s futures. While there’s concern over how AI could impact creativity, there’s also overwhelming agreement (85%) that creativity will be the defining skill that helps children stand out in the future job market.

At Littlest Pet Shop, we’re committed to ensuring that children have every opportunity to grow their imagination and storytelling abilities—skills that will help them succeed no matter what the future holds.
